Solitude Eats
Fractured Souls
Reform in Magna

Will you come and visit
I am blue, pink, green
Comfort food and metallic loos

Frequency of anger, so strong
Ain’t no respite
Desperately try to feel whole

My Angel, she talks to me
Tells me things about my Soul
Cells, DNA memory, I feel blessed

We can go on and on
Reborn from the old world
Waiting at the apex of the new

The Island of Masks: (2008)

This piece came out of Naomi Green’s research project (Next of Kin) interviews with her family in England and Jamaica around their Identity. Naomi Green felt that at times within an interview situation, people wear ‘masks’ depending on how they feel, but  occasionally can the interviewer can get below the surface of the ‘mask’to see what people really feel about something their discussing/ expressing outwardly. This piece explores the ‘masks’ people wear and that place in-between when they approach something they want to express and the freedom that comes from a sense of being alive.

Filmed as part of a Black Orchid Dance Happening, Naomi Green organised for Divus Gallery, Cremer Studio’s, Hoxton, London in June 2008. The Island of masks was Edited and Filmed by Jason Brooks, Performers included Nuno Brito (drums), Parhal ( voice), Birgit Yew ( Cello), Dancers: Naomi Green, Thomas Le Greve, Natasha Alpe collaborated with Naomi Green to create their own ‘mask’ representations.
